Taiwan’s Yul on Car
Company was until very recently partnered with GM, however, the latest round of
economic uncertainty caused GM to pull out of the partnership and look towards China
for greater returns on investment. Yul on have been approaching Chinese car
manufacturers for someone to replace GM, and it appears that Geely may be in
the running to be the first car maker from the Chinese mainland to enter the
Taiwanese market.
However, the plan for Geely / Yul on appears to be different from conventional
automotive producing partnerships. It appears that Geely /Yul on will produce
small sub 1.5l cars together in Taiwan
and the finished cars will carry Yul on budging but will be sold as new through
second hand car markets in Taiwan.
Certain Taiwanese media reports have stated that car imports from China to Taiwan
are banned, but the import of car parts is not, therefore it could be that
Geely will start sending C K D (Complete Knock Down) kits for Yul on to assemble
in Taiwan.
